T Minus 2 Weeks

Hello Everybody!

Happy late valentines day everybody. The most insignificant holiday as a missionary! The past two weeks have for sure been a hoot.

Two weeks ago we wrapped up our zone conferences for the mission! It was a bittersweet moment for sure. Bitter because the zone conference is awesome and I love the spiritual side of it and seeing everyone. But bitter because the work that goes into it is sometimes a lot...I enjoyed it nonetheless. President and Sister Scheltinga focused on the importance of integrity and being a "real" missionary, and focusing on the doctrine of baptism with our friends. I was also able to give one last training with my MTC comp, Elder Trindade. We were able to talk about being an effective teacher.

Logistical things aside we have been greatly blessed in this area! We have been able to find at least 2-3 people a week. One of the kids is named Nixon. Nixon is an unbaptized youth. His parents are members, and his little brother was just recently baptized! Nixon didn't show much interest in the church or baptism, until one day he was "randomly" added to a seminary class. He hadn't taken it before, and didn't choose to be in it, but ended up in it. We have been teaching him consistently. We do lessons at his buddy Lances house just up the road. Teaching Nixon has been a lot of fun. Our lessons feel like a big group hangout sometimes. Our last lesson Nixon and Lance probably had 9 other people there to participate. One of them is one we are trying to start teaching in another ward. Fingers crossed it all works out!

Thursday we had a meeting called Adjusting to Missionary Life. It is a meeting for new trainers and their trainees where we talk about struggles and challenges they face, and then we talk about how we can help. After that we raced to Logan in like a foot of snow and a blizzard to go and collect passports from missionaries. The rule is that if you are an international missionary then the mission office should have your passport, so we went on our ICE run throughout the mission!

Another friend who has been progressing in our area is Monica! I've talked about her before in my emails, she is great. For the last few lessons we made a study plan with her in the gospel library to read the Book of Mormon everyday. This week we had two lessons with her. One with our Stake President, and the other with her local Bishop. For our lesson with the Stake President we printed off the baptismal interview questions and went through them almost like a quiz. It worked out really well for us all. Because we got to see where she was spiritually, and she got to see how much she knew. Then our lesson with the bishop covered the restoration, which was much needed. I wouldn't be surprised if Monica had a baptismal date in the next 2-3 weeks. We will have to see!

Utah also finally got snow. We have had almost no snow these past few months. Finally we got like 2-3 feet over the weekend! Luckily it is only 32 degrees F (0 Celsius), so nothing as cold as back home.

Have a great week everyone. Love you all!

Spiritual Thought

The Way: Elder Lawrence E. Corbridge

No institution, plan, program, or system ever conceived by men has access to the redeeming and transforming power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the gift of the Holy Ghost. Therefore, while the Lord’s invitation to follow Him is the highest of all, it is also achievable by everyone, not because we are able, but because He is, and because He can make us able too. “We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind [everyone, living and dead] may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
