Of Lions, Dragons, and Turkish Delight
How is it going everyone!
Sorry I have been bad at my emails recently, things have been crazy, but great as always.
You're probably wondering why my email is titled "Of Lions, Dragons, and Turkish Delight". Recently Elder Dickson and I came across a podcast series produced by Deserted podcasts, and written by S. Michael Wilcox. It is a comprehensive breakdown of CS Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia, tied into gospel truths and principles. So all week anytime we are driving, eating at home, or really anything that isn't standard missionary work, we listen to it. I highly recommend it.
I had one of the most interesting experiences while finding this week. I was on an exchange with our district leader in his area. We knocked on a lot of doors, and towards the end of the night we finished off on a street....like you normally would. On the last door a gentleman opens up and said "Nope not interested" and then we quickly asked "interested in what" and he paused awkwardly and we stood there for what felt like 5 minutes just looking at each other, then he said "because I'm gay" and before the door closed we shared 2 Nephi 26:24, he paused again for quite awhile and then said "I actually really needed that" and closed the door. It went from being one of the most hostile to friendly interactions on my whole mission. It was good to have nonetheless because he definitely felt the spirit.
On Saturday someone we have been teaching named Asanda got baptized. Asanda moved to Utah a few years ago, and came from South Africa. Her husband and her met soon after her arrival, and came to Huntsville to start a farm. We found them thinking they are a part member family, and they where. Teaching Asanda was so cool, she progressed so quickly. While teaching Asanda the only difficulty we had was when the goats at their house. Sometimes during our lessons they would escape or cause problems. That wasn't a problem for very long though because they ended up slaughtering them all.
This weekend our mission is doing another musical devotional. We did one in about mid june focused on the restoration. The one this weekend will be focused on taking upon us the name of Christ, and I will be speaking! I don't really like singing haha so I will be giving a talk on the importance of the scriptures. I will post the information below and you are all welcome to join and listen!
Well I hope you all have an amazing week. Love you all and I will talk to you next week!
